Staying calm and finding peace in the eye of the storm

Josephine Dumont, Mindset Coach, Leadership Coach

Sometimes there are moments (or days, weeks, months) in life that don’t go as planned and it seems the universe decided to through any challenges in its repertoire at you at once. You may feel like you just recovered from one hardship but can already see the next one lurking around the corner, getting ready to hit you.

You may feel exhausted from all the fighting, frustrated that all of this is happening at the (always) worst time possible and you may even think there is no end to this. And it is ok to feel this way, for a little while. Allow the emotions to come up, and experience the down as for what it is, you may even give air and release some anger.

It is ok and normal.

As long as you know that this is only temporary, the negative emotions are a warning sign to show you something is not right, and there may be a change in direction needed or a shift in focus. Challenges are never just there to make you feel miserable, but rather to help you realise something, learn and grow.

Knowing this can help stay calm and not lose yourself to the circumstances of the challenge or fall into the victim trap of “why does this always happen TO me”.

See it as a chance to change the perspective to “this happened for me and I can learn something from it”.

Not only will you learn to harness the true powers of positivity, but you also set yourself up for accelerated recovery from hardship.

In addition, any hardship is only as hard as you allow it to be. The more at peace you are from within, the less damage the storm outside can cause.

Looking outward can easily be overwhelming, triggering, and stressful. To prevent this negative downward spiral from consuming you, you need to look inward and find your inner strengths, calm, and peace so you can come out of the storm unharmed (or better, you will have grown!).

Finding, building, and accessing these inner resources is something that can be learned. And anyone can do it!

The more you practice, the better you will get and the less likely it will be that the storm might deracinate you.

Reach out to have a conversation about stabilising your inner roots to calm and peace, so that any challenges life may throw at you will be gifts and opportunities to grow and take a step towards your best version of yourself.

You decide whether something has the power to either diminish or GROW you!

NamaStay calm & peaceful
