Step Back Into Self-Trust Through Visualisation

I’m sure you are familiar with at least one of these terms like future self, best self or higher self. I talk quite a lot about it too, as do others on this space. What I don’t agree with though, is that a lot of gurus and self-proclaimed experts talk about it as if your best self is a separate, new version of yourself and that you have to reinvent yourself to become her. I call BS honestly.

I personally have always believed that we already have all that we need to make amazing shit happen. During my coaching training and certification this got confirmed as we have been taught how to help our clients to realise that they are actually already complete, there’s nothing to fix, they aren’t broken and their best self is simply covered right now underneath layers of social and external conditioning. I like to describe it as layers of an onion that we got to peel, the closer we get to the core, the closer you get to your truest and most authentic self.

It’s not a new onion we need to become, but the actual evolution or transformation is to remind ourself who we are and start to fully own it again. One powerful way to do this is through visualisation. And before you tap out and declare this as all woo, using mental imagery and seeing oneself succeeding is a well-known tool in for athletes. A study also showed incredible results in which participants either had to do mental contractions in their little finger versus physical ones. And despite the mental group not actually moving a single finger, their muscle strength increased by 35%. Arnold Schwarzenegger envisioned himself winning the championship and he did, Oprah Winfrey spent months visualising herself being an actress in the movie she wanted and got the role, and Tiger Woods too used mental imagery to improve his performance and is a world famous golfer.

So you can see, this woo-woo is actually a powerful brain hack that you can use to prime and prep yourself for more success to come.

I recently published a podcast episode in which I will guide you through a powerful visualisation exercise that will help you to either activate or reconnect to your best self. You can tune in via the button below, afterwards I will share some journaling prompts with you that will help you to to make the most of this experience.

Here are some questions for you to ponder on after the meditation:

  1. Who are you being as your best self? And how does it feel to be at your best?

  2. What are you doing on a daily basis as that version of you?

  3. What are you doing today that is aligned with that version and what is misaligned?

  4. What will you start doing from today on, to embody that version?

Grab a pen, light a candle if you want, put some calming music on, get in the zone and allow yourself to go deep, be open and honest with yourself and see what comes up.

Your brain is still telling you you’re not good enough and you need to do more? Let’s work on this self-sabotaging pattern together & get you to break free!
