The joys of alone-time!

Josephine Dumont, Mindset Coach

Today I found this very interesting read and as a fellow sole diner and cinema-goer I thought I share some experiences.

I admit, at first dining or lunching alone was weird, I even got asked by the staff in the restaurant if I am really alone and no one else is coming. I felt judged but as soon as the food came out, I just focused on enjoying my meal.

Now, roughly 5-6 years later I have absolutely no problem or negative feelings when dining alone. I even spent my last birthday alone and loved the fact that I got a candle in my dessert!

What doing things like this on my own has taught me, is this:

  • I really enjoy my own company and being around myself

  • I equally enjoy experiences when on my own vs with someone else. It does not add or take away from my happiness

  • It gives me time to learn more about who I am, reflect, and just enjoy the present moment

But I think the key message here is this:

There is only one relationship we ever have from the moment we are born until we die, and it is the one with ourselves.

So, learning to be happy with who and how we are is crucial for our experience on this planet.
Plus, if we truly learn to love and trust ourselves we can give and share equal love and trust to others.

How are you being your own best friend?
